Line 6 Spider Jam Guitar Amplifier CustomerReview
Do you like to jam, but don’t have the time to arrange a session with a drummer and another guitar player?
Well, now you don’t have to arrange time with anyone but yourself and your SpiderJam amp.
Simply select one of many pre-recorded drum loops (and there are plenty to choose from), select an appropriate tone preset (and there are hundreds), then press the Record button.
Play a few rhythm bars [to the drum beat] of that great tune that’s been oozing from the depths of your creativity.
Press STOP when you’re done with the rhythm part. Now, you can press play and the drum/guitar loop that you just made will play over and over.
Now, shred to your hearts content and don’t worry about anyone getting a blister or a call on their cell phone.
Of course, you can do a lot more, like record as many over-dubs (new guitar parts) as you wish.
If you really like what you did, you can save your creation to a JAM file (internal or SD card) and back it up to your PC. There are also pre-recorded JAM tracks of varying styles that already have the drums, rhythm guitars, and bass included. Check out the Line6 website for some great demos of what you can do.
This amp makes guitar playing fun.
Of course, if you can sing worth a flip, there is an XLR microphone input jack so you can mix in some vocals.
The only thing that could make this amp any sweeter would be a USB interface to a PC with some software to allow you to adjust your settings using GUI software.
Would also be nice to have some added mixing capabilities.
All in all, for what you pay for this baby, it’s an awesome value.

A G-Dec convert – You can be one too. – J. Greenwood – Mpls, MN USA
Like another reviewer here, I too own a Fender G-Dec 30 (BTW: now going up for sale). The Spider Jam 75W specs are all out there so I won’t repeat all that info but give you my users impressions instead. First I was fortunate enough to buy one for 0. (the same price as the Fender G-Dec 30), so it’s an even simpler comparison for me.
***The Line 6 Spider Jam 75W is a full head & shoulders taller and better than the G-Dec.***
As simply an amp it has more power and much better sound. I’ll take line 6’s real drums sets and songs over the Fender’s midi/synth tunes any day. The ability to save your custom tunes as JAM or WAV files internally or out to a larger SD card is a godsend. (Mine is 2gb SD – note: it must be fat 16 formatted.) The overdub layering is simply superb (though it’s saved as mono). The XLR mike, 1/4″ plug aux & MP3 inputs allow a great flexibility for total song creation.
The only criticisms I can muster are: 1) – The menu process is more difficult than the G-Dec but easy enough with hands-on experience. 2) – The chrome plastic knobs look somewhat cheap but work well enough.

Great but Poor Quality Control – Dave B. – PA
Nice enough product with all the features you would want. Disappointing that after three months, Jam developed a loud hum after a few minutes of use. Took in for factory service and told that the amp checked out OK. Then tried to use again and no tones or effects — just a standard dry signal with volume control, but no other controls were active. Took back for factory service a second time after checking on Internet for complaints about “ribbon cables”. Amp checked out again as having no problems. Returned the unit and moved on. Never had this much problem with an amp or effects board, and I have been playing various equipment for over twenty years. Amp was never gigged with — just room volume at home. Must have gotten a bad one and this was disappointing since I had looked hard to make sure mine had the most updated software/firmware loaded (2.0) when I purchased it.

Great amp for learning how to play over a band – Pete Sanders –
This amp is the greatest guitar practice amp of all time. It has dozens of back-up bands in different styles you can jam over. You can switch the tempo and key on these songs. What a great way to practice improvising with different styles/keys/scales. You can also record other songs into it and record and loop your own playing. It has all the amp models and effects in Line 6’s other amps.
Killer product.

Awesome! – B. Russell – Wenatchee, WA United States
I’m a beginning guitar player. I wanted something more than what my current practice amp was giving me, so I started looking around. I quickly settled on this amp as soon as the employee at the music store started showing me everything you can do with it. I think I might have passed up this amp if he hadn’t shown me the depth of its features.
Something I never read in the documentation, but is simply invaluable to a beginner like me, is that you can take your ipod and record part of the songs you are learning to play and have them loop over and over again as you try to play the guitar over top of them. This is helping me get my playing to sound like the original song.
The only downside I can mention is that this amp may not be for the technically challenged. There are a lot of features on this amp, but you need to learn how to use them. The common features are easy to use, but if you want to dig in and start really taking advantage of the amp, you will need to invest some time into it. Since I’m not scared of playing around in menus and reading the manual, this amp fits me well.
Now that I have it, I can’t say enough good things about it. It is awesome and just playing with the drum tracks in the past few weeks has really pushed my skills to a new level. I would buy this amp again in a heart beat!
